Psalm 3 - First Look

Don’t like it. Maybe because David’s life seems more like a fairy tale than real life. Maybe if my son ever stages a revolt against me, then I’ll resonate with these sorts of psalms a little more. Maybe it’s just that I don’t understand a lot of it. God is his shield, and therefore He bestows glory (v3)? Why emphasize God’s distance (v4)? I think I’m just being cranky, though

Verse 5 emphasizes that we should take nothing for granted, but then verse 6 goes back into talking about being surrounded by an army. I think my frustration is that I just don’t see a lot to connect to. Oh, and it’s 7:30 in the morning.

Do I need to connect to everything I read, though? I don’t know. I can say, “It’s not all about me,” but then in the end, I’m the one who’s reading it. I am also skeptical of the people who do identify with David, a man after God’s own heart, a slayer of giants, ruler of a nation. Maybe not skeptical per se, but I sometimes view them in the same light as someone who says that they identify with Superman.
